The boteh — the teardrop shape at the heart of the paisley — originated in the Zoroastrian fire temples of Persia before moving through Mughal India, where it became the defining pattern of the finest Kashmir shawls. In South India, the paisley motif appears in temple bronze, in silk weaving, in the embroidery of ceremonial garments across every major tradition. It is not a borrowed pattern here — it grew independently from the same symbolic root: the teardrop as the shape of abundance, of the mango, of the flame. To wear it is to wear a pattern that South Asia has claimed as its own.

In the Western fashion tradition, the paisley was introduced to Europe through the Kashmir shawl trade in the 19th century and became so popular that the Scottish town of Paisley gave the pattern its English name. If you find any problems with your Tarrit article or are unsatisfied for any reason, you can return or exchange the article up to 15 days from the date of purchase.

We will only accept articles that are returned in their original packaging, unused, unwashed, undamaged, and with all tags still attached. Otherwise, we may not accept the return and send it back to the customer.

For all accepted returns, we will refund your money within 7–10 working days, or exchange for another available size or product, as you prefer.
